Baccarat history contains many mysteries even today because different stories are told in different continents. The actual origin of Bacarat is still a topic of debate though some people believe that Baccarat was invented by Italian chap, Lino Bussoli, who was a moneylender of mountainous region of Abruzzo region of Italy. Some other people believe that Baccarat was invented during middle ages. With the passage of time, Baccarat reached to France where people especially of upper class embraced it with open hearts. Some people say that first of all Baccarat was played with Tarot deck. Scholars have different opinions about this fact also.
It is said that people used to be extra careful from being cheated by Bussoli but even then he made ample wealth by his tricky dealings. Once, a local citizen-soldier cut off both of his ears as the punishment for disloyalty to ruling as well as for crooked behavior with citizens. But, this punishment too couldn’t stop him from inventing new methods/tricks to generate money. He used to conduct some gambling games also for luring innocent people to invest their hard earned money. With the passage of the time, his tricks crossed the territorial limits and many changes were incorporated by the people of different continents to make those tricky gambling games more attractive. As a result, today there are four forms of Baccarat:
- American
- Baccarat en Banque
- European
- Chemin de Fer
There are different opinions about the arrival period of Baccarat in American casinos. But, most people believe that Baccarat arrived at Sands casino located at Las Vegas during 1959 – 1960. The casino owner named Tommy Renzoni brought it from Cuba just before seizing of powers by Castro. This Baccarat form was similar to French version called ‘Chemin de Fer’ that reached Cuba passing through Argentina. With the advancement of Internet use, almost all casinos started to conduct it online also.
